Starting from the academic year 2018, the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) initiates the SFI Industry Fellowship for Irish applicants. The scholarship is provided in the field of industry to explore collaborations between industry and universities in Ireland.
The 2018 Industry Fellowship Program aims to strengthen industry-university collaborations by funding collaborative research projects between industry and academia and to foster excellence through knowledge exchange and engineering education and scientists.

All applicants must have a PhD or equivalent. 10 Please refer to the SFI Doctoral Equivalency Policy11 for more information. Note that the doctorate must have been fully awarded at the time of application. The official date is defined as the day, month and year the degree was awarded, ie the month and year printed on the official doctorate certificate. Verification of this official date by the research organization must be available upon request.
For university scholarships to industry, all applicants must be:
A permanent faculty member of an eligible Irish research organization, or
A contracted postdoctoral researcher who is current or current in an eligible Irish research organization, or
Holds a PhD from an eligible Irish research organization.
The fellow is always the candidate and, if successful, the holder of the industry scholarship.
The University Scholar remains an employee of the research organization at all times, including during placement.
Proposals are not accepted from applicants who wish to be accommodated in an organization in which they have a financial interest or decision-making role (see Section 13 – Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest).
Only one grant application per applicant is allowed.
University Fellows who have already been funded through the Industry Fellowship Program are not eligible to apply to the same industry partner.
